SANDOVAL COUNTY, N.M. —
Part of Cochiti Lake is closed this July Fourth holiday, as the New Mexico State Police Dive Team continues its search for an Albuquerque man last seen swimming on Saturday.
Park rangers have blocked off access to the main boat ramp, and the dive team has been in the water throughout Sunday night, into Monday, as the unidentified 34-year old man has not yet been located.
The July Fourth holiday is one of the busiest of the year for the lake, and visitors who are aware of the situation say they’re sending their best wishes to the family.
State police are trolling the area with boats equipped with sonar. When the sonar spots an anomaly on the lake floor, they send in the dive team.
The Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office and Army Corps of Engineers are also assisting.
