The 2019 USA Weightlifting American Open Series 2 Powered by Rogue Fitness will head to the Southwest next summer as Albuquerque hosts the event July 24-28.
The Doubletree by Hilton Albuquerque will serve as the meet hotel. It is located right across the street from the Albuquerque Convention Center, the competition venue. This is the first time Albuquerque will play host to an American Open Series event. The city hosted the 2014 National University Championships and previously hosted the National Junior Championships.
“We are thrilled to be headed back to Albuquerque once more,” USA Weightlifting Senior Events Manager Pedro Meloni Said.
High Desert Athletics of Albuquerque will support the competition.
“I am very excited to be part of bringing back a weightlifting event to Albuquerque,” High Desert Athletics club director Joaquin Chavez said. “I feel that the uniqueness of the American Open Series will be a great fit for the Albuquerque area. I can’t wait to once again have the opportunity to do what it takes to make this event a great success and I hope that many weightlifting memories will be made here.”
“Last time we were in New Mexico, Joaquin Chavez and High Desert Athletics really put so much effort into making sure each athlete had a great experience. We are thrilled to have found another event to partner with Joaquin and the New Mexico weightlifting community,” Meloni said.
All major U.S. airlines serve Albuquerque International SunPort, New Mexico’s largest commercial airport.
The American Open Series is a unique series style event which allows athletes at Youth, Senior and Master levels to experience national level competition together on the same platform. The Series also allows a qualification opportunity for Team USA, subject to 2019 Selection procedures which will be published later in 2018.
Registration, Qualification totals and housing links will be made available closer to the event.
